You may be able to bring a claim for clinical negligence if you have suffered, for example, a delayed diagnosis but what happens if you have not yet received a diagnosis, so you are unsure what is wrong with you?
You may be unhappy with aspects of care you have received, such as suffering with a condition where you go back and forth to your GP or hospital and investigations have been ongoing for some time, but no firm diagnosis has been made.
Until you have received a diagnosis it will not be clear whether there has been a delay in diagnosing that condition.
Where care is ongoing, and it is not clear what is wrong because there is no definitive diagnosis we would always encourage you to speak to your GP or treating team at the hospital and ask them for a clearer understanding of what is happening.
If you have already asked and are still unsure you are within your right to say that you still do not understand. Medical conditions can be complex and it can be difficult for people to understand so medical practitioners should be able to explain clearly to patients what is happening.
You are within your right to ask for a second opinion.
Once you have received a diagnosis, if you consider there was an unreasonable delay in diagnosing it we will be happy to consider a claim further.
