Personal injury client receives £100,000 compensation

13 February 2025

The case:

Whilst cycling down a familiar cycle route, our client was presented with a split-second decision due to an unannounced newly altered cycle lane, which resulted in a severe accident, leaving our client with long term injuries because of the local council’s negligence.

In September 2020, the local council had opened a newly renovated cycle path, which included a slight ramp to give cyclists access alongside a bus stop. The council’s new and improved cycle lane included a freshly tarmacked ramp, sectioned in by a raised concrete kerb. No form of warning was provided prior to the start of the new cycle route which was at the end of an incline.

Unaware of the recent changes and having gathered up speed due to travelling downhill, our client was left to make a split-second decision as to whether he would continue to cycle over the newly placed ramp/kerb or join the fast-moving vehicles on the road to his right. Our client opted for what he believed to be the sensible option and travelled across the new cycle lane. This caused him to be thrown from his bike and suffer serious head and chest injuries.

As a result of the council’s negligence, and having been airlifted to hospital, our client was left with a full set of broken ribs along one side and 2 ribs broken on the right, several severe brain haemorrhages, a collapsed lung, a fractured finger, as well as various other life changing injuries.

How we helped:

In October 2020, our client instructed our firm to start working on his claim. Given the complexity of the claim, and the various amounts of parties involved, in October 2024, True Solicitors obtained our client more than £100,000.00 in damages as a result of his injuries.

Our client express his gratitude for our help along the way, as well as showing appreciation for the knowledge and experience our team provide to clients to ensure they receive the best possible outcome

Our client advised provided feedback on the conclusion of his personal injury claim:

“Excellent staff who were experienced in what they do and did a lot of work in the background on my case. They clearly had a lot of experience in the field of accidents although mine was a cycling accident i believe their depth of knowledge covered this as well. Always contactable and I was kept informed through the 4 years my case took to be resolved.
