Accident at work client suffers hand injury

28 March 2025

The case:

Our client, who was also the health and safety rep for his department, was working in the dispatch yard at his place of work.

He was in the process of operating a tug machine to move a coil trailer out of its parking spot. The machine was new, and he hadn’t previously received any form of training on the use of it.

Whilst turning the tug, due to the uneven ground underneath, the trailer became unbalanced. Despite our client attempting to straighten up the trailer, the sheer weight prevented it, and he suffered jarring to his left hand as the steering handle kicked back.

The injuries suffered were a soft tissue injury to his left hand/thumb which exacerbated his pre-existing arthritis.

How we helped:

His employer was found to be in breach of multiple regulations of the Manual Handling Operations regulations 1992 and our client received £4,500 in compensation and commented “Excellent service and done in a timely manner, with good communications throughout.
