As part of APIL’s Injury Awareness Week campaign 2024, we share a second recent case study of an accident at work case.
Our client, a full-time window fabricator, had an accident at work when one of the airlines failed within the machine station.
To rectify the fault, he switched off the electric power and removed the inspection hatch. There was still compressed air coming through which allows the detection of a leak. He put his arm in the hatch and felt around for the leak. When the client’s arm was in the hatch, another airline suddenly blew off and caused the plate carrying saw blades to move upwards, trapping his arm from the shoulder in between two plates.
He sustained ulnar nerve damage to his right shoulder, arm, wrist and hand.
He has some ongoing loss of feeling on the top of his hand, his wrist, some numbness to his fingers and the strength in his arm is compromised as he struggles with heavy lifting and with fine motor skills.
He received just over £34,000 in compensation for his injuries.
