Our client, living in a council rented property with his wife and 2 daughters, had reported 6 separate disrepair issues with his flat more than 10 times over a 7-year period.

There was widespread evidence of damp and mould in multiple rooms including in the living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and hallway. Apparent gaps between the windows and the frames and with no double glazing in the property, had led to active leaks in wet weather causing the damp and mould.

The property also had bedbugs and a mice infestation.

Having failed to get the disrepairs corrected by his landlord, our client utilised our teams’ expertise in social housing disrepair to take on his claim which was originally settled in May 2023 for which he received £5,500 compensation.

However the repairs were not completed as per the settlement agreement so a breach claim was submitted to the court and the court awarded the client the sum of repairs and further compensation in the sum of £11,547.90.
