Food trolley accident crushes finger

The case:

Our client worked in the kitchen preparing meals on an evening in a care home.

On this particular evening, she was transporting a heavy food trolley of meals from the main kitchen to a smaller serving kitchen. Due to the nature of the building, secure doors needed to be passed through using a security pass to gain entry to other areas.

Whilst passing through and attempting to close one such set of double doors behind her, the laden trolley continued to move, and resulted in crushing her hand against a handrail. Our client received a fracture to one of her fingers requiring 4 stitches, with ongoing periods of pain and sensitivity post the wound healing which was expected to be permanent.

Our client’s employers settled the claim and she was awarded £2,400 in compensation.
