Client receives settlement of £5,000 for slip in high street pet shop chain

Our client had been shopping in a high street pet store when she slipped on dog urine that had not been cleared up. She fell and landed on her left hand side.

She endured pain to her left wrist and left shoulder, extending into the left hand side of her neck. She suffered ongoing pins and needles in her left hand and was left unable to sleep on her left hand side.

The third party initially denied liability for causing the accident alleging that they had robust procedures in place to deal with the risk of slips and trips to customers and they stated that the Claimant herself had failed to take reasonable care for her own safety.

True Solicitors disputed this and the third party then made a Part 36 offer to settle the claim for £3000. On the basis of the recovery period anticipated in the medical report and other evidence in support of the client’s losses, we advised her to reject the offer.

True Solicitors negotiated with the defendant and were able to obtain a settlement of £5000 for the client after proving that the store was negligent in failing to clean up the substance and dry the floor, along with failing to place any barrier or display a warning sign around the wet floor.
