Will I get paid if I have been injured at work?
11 May 2021
If you’ve been injured in an accident at work your first priority is to get better. However, many people are also faced with the worry of if they will be paid whilst they are unable to work during their recovery.
True Solicitors explain what financial help is available to you if you’ve been injured at work.
Will I be entitled to compensation?
If your injuries were caused due to the negligent actions of your employer, you could be entitled to claim compensation from them. Your employer is responsible for your safety in the workplace, and if your safety is compromised due to their actions, they could be found liable for causing the accident.
All employers, no matter how large or small the business is, are required by law to have insurance in place to cover them in the instance that an employer or member of the public is injured whilst on their premises. This means that any payout will not come directly from your employers finances.
It is also important to note that your employer cannot treat you any differently, or fire you for making a claim against them. If they did you could be entitled to make an unfair dismissal claim.

- How your life has been affected by the injury or illness.
- Your future care and support needs.
- Financial losses, including how much money you’ve lost or will lose resulting from the accident (e.g. loss of earnings, travel expenses).
- Specialist equipment and adaptations you may need.
