Motorcyclists are one of the most vulnerable road users in the UK. According to Brake the road safety charity, those travelling on two wheels – be it a motorcycle, pedal bike, moped or electric scooter, are 63 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a road traffic accident than car drivers.
It will come as no surprise to motorcyclists to learn that 69% of all accidents involving motorcyclists took place at a junction and that in almost 80% of cases the other vehicle involved was a car. Less of surprise will be the fact that most accidents caused by car drivers were due to the car driver failing to look properly.
The most common types of motorcycle accident claims that we assist with include:
- Vehicles turning into the path of cyclists.
- Vehicles pulling out at a junction.
- Collisions when changing lanes.
- Dangerous drivers – motorists speeding and driving recklessly, leading to a collision.
- Car door collisions.
- Vehicle doors opening in the path of an oncoming cyclist.
- Defective equipment i.e. failing brakes which may have led to a collision.
- Vehicles pulling onto a roundabout into the path of the cyclist.
- Opening car doors.
The injuries sustained due to a motorbike accident can be extremely serious due to the exposure of riders on the road. Common injuries include:
- Broken bones and fractures.
- Serious head and brain injuries.
- Back and spinal injuries.
- Whiplash.
- Fatal injuries.
