Andrew Milnes

Managing Partner and Financial Director

Andrew is a Chartered Accountant who joined TRUE in 2014, after spending 12 years at a large independent firm of Accountants in Leeds.

Andrew brings with him a wealth of experience in financial reporting, management, taxation and audit, skills which have proven invaluable to the firm. As the firm’s COFA, he has a key compliance role for TRUE, ensuring that the firm protects our clients’ money and is compliant with the Solicitors Accounts Rules. He also ensures the firm is on track with its financial projections, and plays an important role in planning the future strategy for the firm.

In 2023, Andrew was appointed Managing Partner.

He is a keen cyclist, but as a father of two young children, he doesn’t get out as much as he used to!

Kieran Magee

Partner - Business Development and Training

Kieran is Head of Business Development and Training at TRUE Solicitors LLP.

TRUE Solicitors LLP, head quartered in Newcastle upon Tyne, advises clients on personal injury law, financial mis-selling, consumer law and conveyancing.

Kieran’s legal career spans over 30 years and started in 1983 when he took a position as an outdoor clerk at national law firm Wansbroughs Willey Hargrave.

Kieran joined national firm Russell Jones and Walker and later Leeds firm Ison Harrison in 1992. He was instrumental in establishing their Road Traffic Accident department which rapidly grew in size under his leadership. Whilst employed by the firm he decided to complement his vocational skills with formal qualifications; he studied and eventually passed the ILEX exams before embarking on the solicitor qualifications. He obtained the CPE and LPC qualifications by correspondence, the former from the De Montford University in Leicester in 2001, the latter from the College of Law in York in 2004. Kieran qualified as a solicitor in November 2004.

Kieran joined Gorman Hamilton Solicitors, now TRUE Solicitors LLP, in 2000 to establish their Leeds office. He was appointed salaried partner in 2007.

From 2007 to 2018 he was a member of the Management Committee of the Motor Accident Solicitors’ Society (MASS) as Regional Co-ordinator for the Yorkshire region. Kieran was also the MASS representative for The Financial Conduct Authority Management Regulatory Consultative Group.

Andrew heads both the Serious Injury department, dealing with claims for injuries of the utmost severity, and the Employer’s Liability/Occupiers Liability department, dealing with accidents both in the workplace and elsewhere.

He leads a large team of very able lawyers, who use their expertise to succeed in difficult cases which other, less specialist, firms are unwilling to take on. At any given point, the Serious Injury team represents hundreds of clients across England and Wales who have suffered life changing, often catastrophic injuries.

Caroline Houghton

Partner - Housing Disrepair, First Response and Operations Manager

Caroline started our Portal team from scratch back in 2015.  She is now the Partner for Housing Disrepair, one of the fastest growing areas within TRUE.   In addition to this, Caroline is a key member of the business development team too, bringing in several major accounts. She is also the key contact for a number of the firm’s suppliers, including medical agencies, engineers, introducers. and surveyors and has close involvement in the annual recruitment of paralegals.

David Hamilton

Consultant

Founding Partner, David, qualified as a solicitor in 1991. He is highly respected within the legal profession, and has been a driving force of the firm’s success for over 25 years. He closely supports the TRUE Solicitors LLP team, ensuring that they have the best resources available to deliver the very best service.

Dean Auld

Partner - HR

Dean qualified as a solicitor in 1993 and has been with the firm since 1996 and a Partner since 1998. During his time with True Solicitors LLP Dean has handled a large number of Personal Injury Claims, managed a number of Personal Injury teams, established and managed a branch office in the South East of England and set up the firms Residential Conveyancing department. Dean currently has responsibility for the firms’ Human Resources team.

Karen Hindmarch

Partner - Clinical Negligence

Karen qualified as a solicitor in 1998. Her experience, gained with over more than 26 years in the True Solicitors LLP team, combined with her personable nature creates a balanced and trusted advocate. As well as leading TRUE’s clinical negligence team, she also has an active caseload of significant injury cases covering road traffic, employment and public liability cases. Karen understands that patience, as well as a steely determination to get the job done, is required for her team’s clients.

Paul Drabble

Partner - Financial Mis-selling

Paul qualified as a solicitor in 1997 and joined TRUE Solicitors in 2001. He leads a team handling personal injury claims on behalf of claimants, particularly those injured in road accidents. He has acted for clients in a wide range of cases, including difficult liability cases and complex high value claims. Paul, a keen cyclist himself, also has a particular interest in representing and supporting victims of cycle accidents.

Paul has also been involved lobbying the Government on behalf of injured claimants in relation to the personal injury reforms and has written extensively on this subject.

Furthermore, Paul is head of our Financial Mis-selling department, specialising in the mis-selling of solar panels and SIPP pensions.

Richard Milner

Partner - Credit Hire and Marketing

Richard qualified as a solicitor in 1999. Since then he has been winning millions of pounds for hundreds of clients. Richard now heads a team of Solicitors, Legal Executives and Paralegals, and personally handles the more complicated cases. He has represented and supported clients in the Court of Appeal on several occasions.

Richard also oversees TRUE’s branding and marketing activities and works closely with the firm’s Marketing Manager to attract new clients through various channels.

Steve McCourt

Partner - Personal Injury (Road Traffic Accidents) and Head of Compliance

Steve qualified as a solicitor in 1994. Part of Steve’s role is to make key decisions relating to which cases should be pursued and which shouldn’t. In this capacity, Steve protects the firm’s great reputation and manages the expectations of TRUE’s clients.

Steve is involved in the general management of the firm, advising on matters of legal compliance.

Jade qualified as a Solicitor in June 2022, having previously graduated from Northumbria University with a Masters in Law. Jade joined TRUE in January 2023 and currently specialises in Employer and Public Liability claims

Jessica graduated with a Masters in Law and LPC from Northumbria University in 2021 and then began working as a Paralegal for TRUE in the RTA Portal team .

Anna Kane

Anna is a bilingual Solicitor and is more than happy to assist Polish-speaking clients. With almost 10 years litigation experience, Anna helps clients succeed in their personal injury claims often when others are not able to see reasonable prospects of success. She is an integral part of our Employer and Public Liability department. Outside of work, Anna has a particular interest in women’s and children’s rights.

David qualified as a Solicitor in 1994 and joined the firm after spending 28 years at another local firm where he specialised in cases with injuries that are serious and life changing. He brings a wealth of experience having settled thousands of cases over the years worth up to £3.25 million.

David understands that serious injuries bring complex needs. He ensures clients have access to the best rehabilitation available.

Nikki Haywood

Chartered Legal Executive

Nikki previously served in the Women’s Royal Naval Service as an Aircraft Engineer. Having qualified as a Legal Executive in 2002, then a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives in 2007, Nikki has over 20 years’ experience representing Claimants who have sustained personal injury, as a result of suffering from an industrial disease; an accident at work; a public liability accident; an accident involving an animal or being involved in a road traffic accident. Nikki recently appeared on the TV series, Northern Justice, where she successfully represented a young Claimant who sustained injury whilst at work, after being thrown from a horse, despite the Defendant denying responsibility.  Nikki’s engineering background assists in her understanding of claims involving a technical or engineering issue.

Helen Wainwright

Associate Solicitor

Helen qualified as a solicitor in 1994 and has since exclusively represented clients injured in accidents. She specialises in high value claims involving all types of serious injuries including amputations, brain injuries and fatalities. Helen recently secured a compensation award of £5.3 million at the Royal Courts of Justice in London for a severely brain damaged client which show the real efforts of the TRUE Solicitors LLP team.

Julian Clark

Associate Solicitor

Julian qualified as a solicitor in 1991 and with 29 years’ post-qualification experience, Associate Solicitor Julian handles severe, catastrophic and fatal injury claims, including those involving acquired brain injury and serious orthopaedic injuries. In the past he has represented claimants and their estates in pursuing compensation for serious, life-threatening and terminal asbestos-related conditions.

He currently runs a sizeable catastrophic injury and acquired brain injury caseload, some of which are worth well into the millions. He is mindful of the vital importance and benefits of timely multi – disciplinary rehabilitation following injury.

He has plentiful experience of brain injury cases requiring court approval and is experienced with the involvement of the Court of Protection and Deputies. He is a Friend of Headway, the brain injury charity, a member of the Northern Acquired Brain Injury Forum and as a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers he is an accredited Senior Litigator and an accredited Brain Injury Specialist.

Summary of recent cases: 

RTA Severe Brain Injury / Value : £2 million net
The Claimant suffered a severe brain injury  when as a cyclist he was knocked over by the Defendant’s car. The Claimant was rendered incapable of managing his affairs and a Deputy was appointed. The case was settled on a split liability basis and the settlement required Court approval in the High Court of Justice in London.

RTA| Severe Orthopaedic injuries and a mild brain injury / Value:  £1.87 million
Claimant sustained a severe leg and other orthopaedic injuries and a mild brain injury arising from a motorcycle accident.  He was left with life changing disabilities rendering him unlikely ever to work and dependent upon others.

RTA Severe Orthopaedic injuries / Value:  £400,000
Claimant suffered a head-on collision on a motorway when the Defendant travelling in the opposite direction breached the central reservation and drove onto the claimant’s side of the road. The Claimant suffered serious orthopaedic injuries which interrupted her career and was left with permanent residual symptoms.

RTA Severe Brain injury / Value : £399,000 gross

The Claimant pedestrian was knocked over while crossing the road and suffered  a moderate to severe brain injury as well as significant orthopaedic  injuries. Her dementia was brought forward by about 4 years due to the brain injury. A Deputy was appointed because the claimant could not manage her affairs.

RTA Severe ankle injury / Value : £300,000  gross
The Claimant driver suffered a head-on collision with the Defendant’s vehicle which was speeding  and went through a red light.

RTA Serious facial Scarring/ Value: £250,000

The Claimant, a minor, suffered serious facial injuries resulting in significant  scarring when the vehicle he was travelling in went out of control and crashed. The matter was referred to the High Court for approval of the settlement figure.

Abby is a paralegal within the Clinical Negligence Department, joining the firm in March 2023. She completed her integrated master’s degree in MLaw at Northumbria University in 2023.

Abby discovered her interest for clinical negligence during her Medical Law module at university and knew this was an area she would like to work in. Abby assists in the day to day running of progressing cases.

Alix Walker

Head of Clinical / Medical Negligence

Alix is head of the Clinical Negligence Department and oversees the day to day running of the department, supervising staff, assessing prospects on new claims, and managing the development of the team.

Alix qualified as a solicitor in 2005, and has worked in personal injury and clinical negligence since. Alix has a degree in Law from the University of Luton and completed her post graduate Diploma Legal Practice Course at the University of Westminster before completing her training locally in the north east.

Alix also completed a master’s degree in Medical Law at the University of Northumbria and works exclusively in the Clinical Negligence Department dealing with a variety of claims including birth trauma cases, catastrophic injuries, misdiagnosis of cancer and orthopaedic claims.

Alix is helpful and approachable and invests time in her clients to ensure they are guided through their claim in what is often a stressful and uncertain time for them. Alix is also a member of the Women Lawyers Division North East.

Kieran Martin

Legal Executive

Kieran is an integral part of the Clinical Negligence Department working as a legal executive, having worked in the firm since 2015. He started in the personal injury team before transferring his skills into clinical negligence.

Kieran is currently an Associate Member of CILEX and is working towards Fellowship. He is methodical in his approach to his work, has a keen eye for detail and provides invaluable systems support within the team.

Monique Jewett

Paralegal

Monique graduated with a 2:1 Law degree (LLB hons) from Nottingham Trent University in 2021. She then returned to the northeast to complete her master’s degree in Legal Practice (integrated LPC) at Northumbria University, from which she graduated in 2022. Monique is currently working in the Clinical Negligence Department as a paralegal. She thoroughly enjoyed Medical Law during her studies and hopes to continue to build her skills within the team.

Olivia Bowern

Paralegal

Olivia is a paralegal in the Clinical Negligence Department.  She joined the firm in December 2021 and moved to clinical negligence in September 2023, where she provides support to the team in progressing cases.

Sophie McConnell

Paralegal

Sophie graduated in June 2018 with a law degree (LLB (Hons)). She joined True in March 2019 as a claims assistant in the Personal Injury team before moving into the Clinical Negligence Department in April 2022 as a paralegal.

Sophie’s interest in clinical negligence began during her studies, and she is able to apply her knowledge to cases. She assists in the progression of cases and ensures they are managed effectively.

Stephen Winn

Solicitor

Stephen qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and joined the Clinical Negligence Department at True in 2022. Prior to qualifying he was a nurse for 10 years working mainly on intensive care units in local hospitals. Stephen has worked almost exclusively in clinical negligence and has experience of both claimant and defendant work. This together with his medical background means he fully understands the medical and legal processes and the client experience in often difficult situations. Stephen has experience of a variety of claims in terms of complexity and value including delayed diagnosis, surgical errors, orthopaedic claims, and serious injuries.

Toni Hall

Solicitor

Toni graduated from Northumbria University with a master’s degree in Law with first class honours in June 2020. She then joined True in January 2021 as a paralegal in the Clinical Negligence Department, before being offered a Training Contract with the firm in March 2022. She is currently working as a solicitor in the Clinical Negligence Department.

Toni became interested in clinical negligence very early in her studies and has since developed that interest, she has worked on a range of cases including traumatic birth injuries, surgical errors, delayed and missed diagnosis.  She now runs her own caseload as well as assisting senior fee earners on more complex matters.

James Lawton

Patricia Hall

Patricia joined the TRUE Solicitors LLP team in 2010 to develop the conveyancing department. Patricia qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and has been a residential conveyancer for over 20 years.

Anne-Marie qualified as a solicitor in 2001. She is a solicitor in our conveyancing department, specialising in residential property.

Dawn has been a conveyancer in the North East for more than 25 years and joined the TRUE Solicitors LLP team in 2012.

Dean Auld

Dean qualified as a solicitor in 1993 and has been with the firm since 1996 and a Partner since 1998. During his time with True Solicitors LLP Dean has handled a large number of Personal Injury Claims, managed a number of Personal Injury teams, established and managed a branch office in the South East of England and set up the firms Residential Conveyancing department. Debbie has worked in the Legal industry for over 25 years. She now supports the Conveyancing department as a Conveyancing Assistant.

Emma Thornton

Emma is a conveyancing executive and joined the TRUE Solicitors LLP team in 2014 as part of our continued expansion. Emma has been involved with residential conveyancing in the North East for 10 years.

Iulia Hapau

Conveyancing Assistant

Iulia graduated from Northumbria University in July 2022 with a Masters in Law degree, which incorporated the LPC. An important aspect of her degree was her final year’s dissertation in Medical Law. Iulia was also awarded a Northumbria Law School’s Global Scholars Prize in the same year. Iulia recently joined TRUE as a Paralegal, supporting our Conveyancing department.

Margaret is a conveyancing assistant and joined the TRUE Solicitors LLP team in 2010 after returning to the North East following 10 years working in a residential conveyancing department in a large firm in the South of England.

Stephanie is an administrative assistant and have been part of the TRUE Solicitors LLP team team since 2010.

Kate Buxton

Kate started with TRUE in 2021 initially joining the Portal RTA team.  Later that year she moved to the Credit Hire Team where she is now a Paralegal in our Small Claims Litigation department.

Lesley Summers

Lesley has worked continuously for the company for 28 years, starting when the company was known as Gorman Hamilton Solicitors. She started out as the Secretary for then Partner David Hamilton and her position has changed several times over the years. Lesley currently works in the Credit Hire Team as a First Response Advisor, mainly interviewing clients over the telephone to enable statements to be drafted and she has also been involved in the training of other members of staff.

Lisa returned to the the UK and TRUE in February 2023 after previously emigrating to Canada.  Lisa also previously worked on Road Traffic Accidents from 2009-2013.  She is now a member of the Credit Hire team.

Kieran is Head of Sales at TRUE Solicitors LLP.

TRUE Solicitors LLP, head quartered in Newcastle upon Tyne, advises clients on personal injury law, financial mis-selling, consumer law and conveyancing.

Kieran’s legal career spans over 30 years and started in 1983 when he took a position as an outdoor clerk at national law firm Wansbroughs Willey Hargrave.

Kieran joined national firm Russell Jones and Walker and later Leeds firm Ison Harrison in 1992. He was instrumental in establishing their Road Traffic Accident department which rapidly grew in size under his leadership. Whilst employed by the firm he decided to complement his vocational skills with formal qualifications; he studied and eventually passed the ILEX exams before embarking on the solicitor qualifications. He obtained the CPE and LPC qualifications by correspondence, the former from the De Montford University in Leicester in 2001, the latter from the College of Law in York in 2004. Kieran qualified as a solicitor in November 2004.

Kieran joined Gorman Hamilton Solicitors, now TRUE Solicitors LLP, in 2000 to establish their Leeds office. He was appointed salaried partner in 2007 .

From 2007 to 2018 he was a member of the Management Committee of the Motor Accident Solicitors’ Society (MASS) as Regional Co-ordinator for the Yorkshire region. Kieran was also the MASS representative for The Financial Conduct Authority Claims Management Regulatory Consultative Group.

Nicole joined in May 2023 with a wealth of experience in Marketing Communications and Business Strategy Development.  Nicole’s focus will be on evolving the TRUE brand and generating brand awareness with prospective new clients, creating and delivering an integrated Marketing Communications short and long term plan.

Dale is a Business Development Manager, responsible for identifying business opportunities and building long-term relationships, as well as evaluating the current performance of the business and our partners. Dale is responsible for increasing TRUE’s brand awareness and bringing in new customers, as well as maintaining relationships with key clients.

Richard Milner

Partner - Credit Hire and Marketing

Richard qualified as a solicitor in 1999. Since then he has been winning millions of pounds for hundreds of clients. Richard now heads a team of Solicitors, Legal Executives and Paralegals, and personally handles the more complicated cases. He has represented and supported clients in the Court of Appeal on several occasions.

Richard also oversees TRUE’s branding and marketing activities and works closely with the firm’s Marketing Manager to attract new clients through various channels.

Hannah Keppie

Head of Housing Disrepair

Hannah graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in 2008 and qualified as a solicitor in 2010.

In her previous roles, Hannah has managed a variety of cases that cover all aspects of Motor Litigation; representing both Claimant and Defendant, Hannah has handled complex accidents, fraud, credit hire, injury and high value multi track cases. More recently, Hannah began representing clients of Housing Disrepair, managing a team of fee earners in her last role.

Hannah joined True Solicitors LLP in May 2022 as Head of Housing Disrepair, leading our newest & fast-growing department.
